AFAIK, the cbr format is the most popular format followed by cbz format.
Evince also support the comics book format cb7.

The patch is ready [1], but I want to review it to make sure it applies
flawlessly with the current master version to easier the work of the
maintainers. The basic reason for the delay is that it needs
share-mime-info support. I submitted a patch [2] for it that was applied
and published on version 0.70 [3]. This version of share-mime-info was
not supported on GNOME til the lastest development version 2.29.3 [4],
so I think we are now ready for applying the patch. 

With this stuff and your interest I hope we have the chance for
inclusion of cbt support on this development cycle :)
