hmm, I don't really know, evince just uses the gs interpreter to render
PS documents, so that rendering is done by gs, not by evince.

Check which Ghostscript you're using - it can make
quite a difference, as shown below. Both are driven by evince
with the exact same commandline, the bad one is from  ESP Ghostscript 8.15,
the good one is from GPL Ghostscript 8.54.
