I tried the PDF in evince 0.50 over here, and the text turns out
properly. I too, at one point about three weeks ago had poor font
handling in evince, but it has gone away...
Since the evince binary hasn't changed over here, I assume it must be
something with poppler. It has had a few updates since the original
0.5.0 in gentoo, but I don't see anything interesting in the ChangeLog...
