Doubt regarding changes on server-end files

The requirements for the project state that you need to only know
C, GTK+/Glib. So, when a person opts for some thing using sync options changes are to be made in his home directory and they should not affect other users on the systems. But still i had doubt that are there any changes that are required to be made on the server-end ? Please clarify.
