Epiphany and Java

I am having problems with Java on Epiphany that are causing severe
stability issues.

Java 1.5 was recently installed (1.4.2 is still on the system) and I
added a symbolic link to the 1.5 version of libjavaplugin_oji.so to the
directories /usr/local/lib/mozilla/plugins, /usr/local/lib/browser_plugins, and /usr/X11R6/lib/browser_plugins (I am on FreeBSD).

about:plugins shows the title Java 1.5, with the right file location and
plugin name. If the screen is refreshed, the notation for the 1.4.2
plugin is displayed. Refresh again, and you return to the 1.5 notation.

In either case, only Java versions up to 1.4.2 are listed on the table
below the title. Javatester crashes the browser when trying to find the
Java version; Sun's test for JavaVM finds 1.5.0.

Firefox works fine, is stable, and shows the proper Java versions in the
title and table in about:plugins.

This has been absolutely maddening, and it seems that something is not
configured properly. I would be very grateful for any advice on how to
fix this. Please copy me on any messages, since I do not subscribe to
the list.

Versions: Gnome 2.16.3, Epiphany 2.16.3, FreeBSD 6.2R-p1.

Frank
