Totally agreed. And other major browsers, as far as I know (dunno about Opera though) defaults to new windows, that is totally fine by me (and surely less surprising). The thing is that there are basically two major types of users of todays modern browsers, those who likes to keep everything in separate windows and let the window manager do the job, and the type who wants everything in tabs and group at least related stuff that way.
