We wouldn't put the whole webpage into one large string. Po files work 
well for strings of about one paragraph length. Having to use Yet 
Another Way of translating text is not something translators will be 
happy about.

The only viable alternative would be XLIFF and even that is being made 
to interoperate with the gettext format.
