Hello all,
I've updated the hierarchical bookmarks patch for 1.3.2. Download from
the usual place: http://www.dsl.uow.edu.au/~harvey/code_epiphany.shtml
For the mean time, I've given up on the extension idea. It seems to me
that the presentation of bookmarks and topics is embedded a little too
deeply into the core of Epiphany. My patch touches on bookmarks menu,
topic actions (for the bookmarks bar), and topic selector. Modifying all
of these so that an extension can be created seems a bit too much.
Anyway, my patch was always meant to be an enhancement of the usability
of Epiphany's bookmark system when working with complex collections of
bookmarks. It 'degrades' nicely (in the simple case where there is just
one topics for each bookmark there are no user-visible changes). Only in
complex bookmark collections are the bookmarks auto-organised, and even
then we avoid constructing deep menu hierarchies.
As it doesn't interfere with the operation of Epiphany for novice users
I'd hope it may end up in the core of Epiphany eventually. So far I've
had no comments criticising it (then again, I've had few comments about
it at all :). Could I get some quick feedback as to what objections
there are to having it included in Epiphany? Or experiences of people
who've tried it and found it difficult to use?
Thanks.
