Re: Newcomers activities at GUADEC 2017

@GUADEC team - thanks for inviting me to the call today! Here's a newcomers at GUADEC wiki page [1], where I added details for the newcomers' activities that we talked about.

While the wiki page is meant to be read by a newcomers' audience, I added detailed notes for organizers for each event.

@Engagement team: Please take a look - feedback and more ideas are very welcome!

I think it's nice to help integrate them into the wider community. Last time we tried mixed groups with newcomers and oldcomers. Unfortunately, it was too loud and talking together as a group was rather difficult.

Was the volume a result of the format though? I mean, why would it be more difficult to talk when you have more established members of the community present?

I like the idea of a buddy system!

Would you be interested in helping us to set this up?

I wasn't at the GUADEC you're referring to, so do you mind describing it a bit more?

>From memory, the way it worked was that newcomers were divided into teams, and they had tasks to do that involved them speaking to established community members, like bits of information they had to find out. The first team to complete all their tasks won a prize.

I'm not saying this is exactly what we should be doing, but I do think it would be worth us having a discussion to establish our goals, generate ideas, and decide on a plan. Perhaps we could devote part of one of our regular GUADEC planning meetings to this?
