One point that's worth making here: while it's probably OK for a
copyright holder to grant us permission to use a photo, I'm leaning in
the direction of only using photos that are Creative Commons licensed.
The main reason for this is simplicity, but it also gives more
flexibility and is more in keeping with GNOME's mission.

Yes, in that situation we should probably ask for an email outlining
what terms the photos are licensed under (or ask that the photos come
with the licence embedded).

It's also worth considering that we want these images for archival
purposes - we might want to use the photos in the future in ways that
the author might not have anticipated.
