They said that their (German) tax officer said that their (German) tax
exempt status applies to EU member states, due to EU legislation.  Of
course, your local tax office makes the rules for you, so you better
double check before expecting too much.  In any case, I recommend
asking WHS for a (written) confirmation of your donation to have
something tangible to show your tax office.
