Re: Mobile Giving Foundation

Hi Stormy

I will respond to this question in two steps.

Part 1
Breakeven - we need around 11 people giving 10 bucks for the 1st 3 months to breakeven.

Part 2
I think we should treat this as a pilot as we dont even know how our members will respond there will be an acceptance period and we should take the 300 bucks we pay them over 3 months as Capital Expense. At the end of 3 month we should be in a position to decide further if this works or not - my assumption is that if we have around 20 folks giving we should be in good shape and since this is Tax free donation - we should send them receipts so technically it willo cost them between $7 and $7.50 to make a donation of $10 to Gnome.

I looked at XIPWIRE - its cool - only issue one additional step (and dont know their setup fee). Apart from that we can use Mobile causes's other tools to market our stuff and  that can be used for buzz around Boston summit and Gnome 3 rel.

Sorry I could not join the Mktg mtg on 13th.

Let me know what u guys think.

Thanks for the update, Bharat.

If you could also figure out how many donations we'd need to break even, that would probably help with the decision.

I found some good info in this article[1] about what companies usually charge nonprofits for this type of service.

Sorry folks - was a little sick for the last week or so.

I pinged all of the ASPs and have heard back from quite a few. The fees/costs are all over the place.

The best that I have found till now is as follows:

Services offered (I think there is more than just donation collection via mobile.)

Messaging broadcast, iPhone app, All services, text in Votes, Text to Phone bill or Credit card. (I am expecting detailed docs today)

No setup, No startup
Host Plan: (Saves us all the application work)
$99/mo - 50cents per transaction, 90 day cancellation.

Discounts (This is the best I was able to negotiate), per transaction fee stays same
3mo - 10% on monthly fee
1yr - 10 mo (pay 10 months of fee instead of 12)

Once we reach a critical mass, where paying a higher monthly fee is viable and transaction fees start hurting us we can renegotiate (already discussed)

I am still waiting to hear from a couple of more folks - but thi sounds the best deal - lets discuss in Feb 13th meeting.

Bharat
