Re: Packets for Local User Groups

Agreed. And while Ubuntu's recent discovery regarding how to get swag to people is hardly groundbreaking, GNOME would probably be wise to take a look at the way Fedora has been supplying its ambassadors over the past several years with items they need for LUG meetings, smaller shows, etc.

In North America it's fairly simple: An ambassador requests an ambassador kit for her/himself to have on hand in the event s/he goes to a LUG meeting or other gathering where s/he can promote Fedora. If an ambassador wants to "own" an event -- a larger lug meeting or a show/expo -- the event box may come into play and/or items are sent to said owner via mail/UPS for the ambassador to keep if s/he does not exhaust what is sent.

Larger events -- SCALE, OSCON, etc. -- get the event box with all its trappings.

I'd be glad to help GNOME get this started, since I am responsible for distributing Fedora swag to ambassadors in the US West Coast states and have a pretty good idea how to move stuff around. But before I do -- and since my activity with GNOME is limited only to being the temporary keeper of the event box -- I am curious: Is there an Ubuntu LoCo or Fedora Ambassador equivalent in GNOME?

PS -- I'm assuming, too, that the event box is going to Utah Open Source Conference in October, true?

I agree it would be best to get feedback from the User groups themselves before we do a lot of work creating things ...

Maybe GNOME.Asia can do it for Taiwan and bring some best practices back to us?

A GNOME event box for the group. So like you say, they don't have to
return it.

Sounds like a good idea, but what work is involved?  If the materials
are the same as what we include in the event box, then perhaps we just
need to add some text to the User's Group Wiki page so people know where
to get the materials.

Or are there any materials we should create that are specific to User's
Groups.  Perhaps by helping to make them more interesting/fun/active?

Though, I'd think that we should work more to revive gugmeisters, and
this would probably be a good topic to discuss there instead of here.
Doing some work to make sure that people who do work relating to
GNOME User's Groups or who are active members subscribe to the list
would be a good idea.

Yes, that's a good idea. A GNOME packet sounds like a GNOME event box ?

In Taiwan's case, we can send a GNOME packet for the next COSCUP
2011, the local taiwan users group can host a booth in the
conference. After the conference, the packet can be managed by the
local users group for future events and activities.

In case you aren't on the marketing list. I thought with new
local user groups in the Asia region, this might be an
       interesting idea.

Ubuntu has packets now that they send to new local user groups.

I thought it was an idea we might want to copy for GNOME.
