I'm sorry.  I obviously generalized Murray's Press Release Howto for
releases too much. :(

Well, then I'd probably

 * delete 'unique' in 'unique forum' and 'unique event',
 * delete "Pair these developers ..." completely (judgement),
 * enclose "Their hosting of GUADEC ..." in a quote for it is a
   judgement,
 * move the seltence "The range of topics ..." up for it's rather
   important to readers, and mix other sentences into it,
 * copy earlier 'about' paragraph, and
 * rearrange it here and there.

The result is attached. Please note:

 * I didn't rewrite the 'about' paragraph because we probably don't want
   to discuss this right now.
 * I wasn't sure what 'workshops and showcases focusing on
   translation efforts' was intended to mean (no development?) -
   hopefully I catched the meaning, otherwise please correct.
 * Somebody needs to check the 'about IGC' paragraph - there's none on
   their webpage press section, but these three dots obviously shouldn't
   be there.
 * I'm not a native speaker so someone needs to check grammar, etc.

It might be nice to have a standard template for press releases in the
future.

GUADEC 2006 SLATED FOR BARCELONA

The 7th annual GNOME User and Developer European Conference (GUADEC)
will draw businesses, government, education and end users to Barcelona.

BOSTON, Mass. - 20 June, 2005 - The 7th annual GNOME User and Developer
European Conference (GUADEC) will bring software developers, as well as
business, government and private users of free and open source software
to Barcelona, Spain. 

The conference is a forum for highlighting the capabilities and
direction of GNOME, the free software desktop and development enviroment
for personal computers, workstations, networked servers and portable
Internet devices.

The range of topics will include development workshops, showcases
focusing on translation efforts, business models for professional free
software development, GNOME in mobile devices, and discussions about the
future direction of GNOME.

GUADEC is being held April 29 - May 4, 2006 at Fira de Barcelona, in
combination with the Internet Global Congress (IGC). The event will be
jointly organized by the GNOME Foundation, the Generalitat de Catalunya
(Catalan Government), the Council of Barcelona, the IGC and the local
free software community. 

Timothy Ney, executive director of the GNOME Foundation, welcomes the
participation of the local administrations: "This will be a splendid
opportunity to showcase their developments in e-government and
education, and to share them with visitors from all over the world."

The Generalitat de Catalunya and the Council of Barcelona have a
commitment regarding the use of open standards and free and open source
software in the public sector and have also been working on spreading
free software among the citizens.
