Yeah, let's stay with this for a while.
1) I do not have a file called .asoundrc. I've seen a number of suggestions for
.asoundrc contents; suggestions are welcome.
2. Amixer returns:

Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right - Rear Left - Rear Right - Front
Center - Woofer
