Hi John,
I think that 1.3 megapixel are sufficient for a Webcam using Ekiga.
However, the Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000 (and also the notebook model) is
far superior to any webcam which I had before. I can't comment on the
Microsoft one. The Logitech is extremely light sensitive and has really
good optics though at rather wide angle. Autofocus is not working yet
under linux, but you do not need it. The software Logitech provides for
Windows is very demanding. You should find a way only to install the
Windows drivers. Under Ubuntu Jaunty with standard Ekiga I have problems
with the Logitech Pro. Often Ekiga can not open the device, as if it had
not been closed properly before. Running cheese once or twice inbetween
fixes it. 
If you are bying new Cams and have some time to sort out problems I
would recommend the Logitech Pro ones.
