OK, that does it.  Thanks.  Being a KDE user on a non-debian system, I
normally do not install much in the way of gnome stuff.  But I found the
package for gnome-doc-utils.  Can Ekiga be made a bit less platform
specific?

Ekiga runs and connects to the MCU at the other end.  The bouncing ball
is transmitted.  There is no sound in either direction.  (There was no
meeting, but I get a 'welcome' message otherwise.)

I get messages on user login about the sound system not being set up.
There are similar messages with Ekiga starts.  The problem is somewhere
in the sound system, and I have not been able to track it down yet.
Otherwise, there is progress.
