Just verified these phenomena again this morning.

In any case, troubleshooting a mixed system---Ekiga 3 
from Sid in Lenny system---seems a bad idea.  Better 
I stick with Ekiga 2 or up the whole system to Sid.

And beyond that I need to fix the terminal emulator 
before worrying about VoIP.
