I have had great results having them in the same network.
In older versions it was possible to cofigure a stun server, but in
version 2.9.90 network configuration is automatic. I would like to
force it to use stun.
It always use stun now as I read.
Runing Ekiga from the commandline should tell you "badNatType" if you
are in front of a problematic network.
Since about 1 month, ekiga shows a dialog box (instead of "badNatType"
message) with a few information.
