I can reproduce:
$ ps -A|grep dbus
 5263 ?        00:00:01 dbus-daemon
yan achille:~$ ekiga

** (ekiga:25403): CRITICAL **: void ekiga_dbus_client_show(): assertion
`proxy' failed
yan achille:~$


I just did a "killall dbus-daemon" in a terminal, previously I had 2
instance of dbus-deamon running. 

It was something like that:
$ ps -A|grep dbus
 5263 ?        00:00:01 dbus-daemon
 xxxx ?        00:00:xx dbus-daemon

Thus I believe there is a problem with your dbus installation. I don't
know much yet, but it is a track. Maybe other can now reproduce it too.
(/me looks at damien...) (and the killall dbus-deamon messed up my Gnome
desktop (killing the theme and some terminals...)
