Hi David
I cannot find any log files recording the issue. I had started Easytag
from Konsole and had error messages saying that it could not open dconf
database and dconf/local was missing. I found this reference:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1290596#p1290596
and followed the advice to change the .dconf file in my home directory
and, as I say, this solved the problem when a new .dconf was written.
Best wishes
John F.

If the wrong backend is being used, check that you have the dconf
daemon
(the binary is actually called "dconf-service" and generally found in
/usr/libexec) installed and that it is running. It should automatically
be started, but that will not happen if it is not present!
Same problem. Solved by renaming /home/j/.dconf to .dconfbak so new
.dconf
created.
It should not be necessary to remove the dconf database unless it
somehow became corrupted, and I am not aware of such a problem in
current versions. Do you have logs from the dconf daemon failing (or
of EasyTAG failing to write settings to dconf) before you renamed the
database?
