There has been some progress made in porting EasyTAG to use GFile, which makes it easier to access remote files (as well as providing a good abstraction of file IO). Currently, the only place in EasyTAG where this is finished is for loading and saving pictures from tags, so that if you add images using the standard filechooser, you can select a file on a remote gvfs mount, such as a Samba share mounted with Nautilus.

Most of the tagging functions are ported to use GFile, but there are still large parts of EasyTAG that will need to be refactored to make it possible to browse remote shares. You can track progress of the GFile porting at:
