Re: dogtail -recorder not available in -0.8.0-1

Hi Manoj,

We've dropped the recorder from the new release (0.8.0) simply because we didn't deem it important enough to go through all the trouble porting it at this time. The at-spi technologies have changed significatly from the GNOME 2 times and after some initial attempts it looked like it would take some time. Priority was to make a working release of dogtail rather sooner, since the old 0.7 was of no use with the new GNOME. We'd likely port it too, if we had some reports of people using it. Not too many people considered recorder to be useful to write a very useful code before considering its heavy focus on procedure - and also since it was a bit unstable.

Safe to say, I don't plan to drop recorder for the future releases - it is planned to be ported and added in future 0.8 releases, that is if we find time to do it. Since you're the first person to report missing it, if we see that more people would like it back, we might try to get it back sooner than later.

As to alternative - there was a recording plugin to the 'Accercizer' - that unfortunately got dropped too for similar reasons. However you might want to try some older version of that, I believe that plugin made it into GNOME3 version and just got dropped later. Of course it won't record code in 'dogtail' but likely in plain pyatspi.

I hope you can manage to write useful scripts meanwhile - working with Sniff or Accercizer to find the UI details and typing code based on that is hopefully painless enough.

Please let us know, should you need anything.

Cheers,
Vita

Hi,

While using dogtail-0.8.0-1, I learnt that the recorder has been removed since 0.8 version. What is the reason behind this? Is there any alternative available for dogtail-recorder.

Thanks,
