I didn't do above two actions at all.

What I did is to enable Chinese (Taiwan) phonetic input method from Control Panel-> Regional and Language options.

by default Dia use "sans" font, It is better to change the font to "MingLiu" before you try to type in Chinese.

I did encounter type in Chinese directly without change sans to mingliu font and the Chinese characters just disappear after the enter key.

The problem was due to my inexperience  of using Chinese Input on Windows XP.

I am able to input Chinese in all the objects that allow text input.

Tested ok on both 0.97 and 0.97.1

Also tested ok on Fedora 12.

Another impressive Dia feature is good I18N support ;)
