The area within the page borders represents the printed area inside the margins.  INother words you do not see the unprinted white space when looking at Dia.   Also, since the margins themselves are variable there is further confusion.

I do not understand the size of the canvas in relation to how it will appear printed.

What are the borders? Is it simply the 21 x 29.7 for a4 for example and i have to simply stay within those ruler lines?

I couldnt see a printer preview to test
