I'm using dia to generate block diagrams. There is one feature I
dearly miss in dia:
entering objects with text is very unfriendly.
Let me explain:
I want to create a box and put a text in it. Adding a text to the box
is great, but now I want those two to live together, group them you
say? sure but then I cannot edit the text anymore. Now consider I
want 50 boxes, I need to group, copy/paste, ungroup, change text, regroup?
I tried to create a shape that's a box with text in it - couldn't
figure out how to do that in 5 minutes (exported a diagram as shape,
tried to "sheets and objecs" add it, dia crashes) , so I dropped the
idea.
UML class object has text in it, but it gets resized to the internal
text size - not what I want, plus the class has some extra lines.
I'm talking about what to me is the minimum basic functionality. It
has been in visio from day 1. Maybe I'm missing something, so please,
enlighten me, I think it is very likely I'm missing something.
Have you tried the shapes in the flowchart sheet? They grow (resize) with
the size of text inside them; but they admit two or three symbols withot
growing ..
I use in my work shapes that don't resize (I 'm still planning to send them
to Dia ...). My texts are usually very short, so I prefer all the shapes
being of same size ....and eventually modify some sizes if needed. My shapes
have just 2 connecting points, vertically or horizontally aligned.
I can send you some if you want.
Dan
BTW I'm not on the list, so please "reply to all".
