Re: Greek letters in text objects

It seems we use the mailing list as a FAQ and archive a lot of the time.  You can search the archive using google with good results.

To get the characters (I am using Dia v0.95 pre7):

Go to Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Character Map

In the character map set it for Arial font and you will see a broad palette of characters. [I attached an example.]
you select the individual character you want then pick the COPY button.  This puts the character(s) in you clipboard so it can be pasted into Dia.  You can slect a series of characters in the charactermap and copy them all at once.

I often copy from one Dia file to another as an alternative to creating shapes.  You could do the same for out of the ordinary characters like Greek letters, but use Wordpad instead of Dia.  Set up a Wordpad file and paste all the symbols and letters you are likely to use from the character map.  you could set up an alphabet or transfer the entire character map. (I am actually thinking I may do this and quit going to the character map ever again)   Then when you need them in the future shortcut the process by going to the Wordpad file instead of resorting to the clunky character map business.

In Wordpad you can quickly copy and paste words together using highlight/ctrl-C/pick in place/ctrl-V for use in Dia.  Not very handy but it functions as a work around.

I know the Dia gods are working on a more modern text composition method.

Perhaps someone could summarize and make it an FAQ item?
