As already mentioned in
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=328200
and
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=331027
I'd like to get rid of the Element width (and height)
entries in the standard properties dialogs again.
IMHO they are causing more harm than good.
Thoughts?
Some programs I've used (CorelDraw maybe) have a hybrid use-case for things
like this.
Lets say you grab a group of like-type objects (all flowchart objects), but
they have different properties (line widths, sizes, colors, etc.). You
right click, hit properties, and the normal properties window for the object
appears. You can change anything and everything. Lets say you change the
color to purple. When you hit apply/OK, that is the _only_ thing that
updates. Much like the checkbox in group_props.py, but much more seamless.
The user intent is to change all of the selected objects color to purple.
Not to change anything else.
An equally valid use case would be if the user wanted to change all of the
selected objects line size, but not change their color.
Likewise with the element width or height. I much prefer to have a uniform
height / width when I am preparing a formal diagram. To me, it is too bad
that the UML diagram can't be resized at all. You can't even make its width
match the grid increments... (not too big of a deal, but a nit, since all
free software will eventually be perfect)
Hope this helps,
Rob
