What is the status of callbacks in the Dia roadmap?

Have you looked at DiaCanvas(2)? It does a number of the basic Dia
things (connections and handles), but is designed to be used as a
widget.
It indeed has the basic callback structure I was looking for? So, the
natural question for me is: Is there any common roadmap between Dia
and DiaCanvas? (Or has there ever be a common history?)
I'm not sure it has that callback structure, I haven't looked at it
myself. It's a split-off from Dia for some who wanted the connections and
such but not all the other Dia stuff.
