Hi all,
I'm having serious problems with the freetype support in dia 0.90.
Everything works fine without freetype, but then the graphics are
unbelievably ugly.
1) dia won't save freetype font attributes.
any font is saved as regular, no matter if it was bold, italic or
bold/italic.
see http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=97564
This is fixed in CVS.
2) freetype fonts always have a white background.
if you place black text on a gray box, it looks wrong.

Yes, at that time I had found no way to do alpha compositing for the
freetype-rendered bitmap. The newest CVS (from yesterday) has fixed that
problem, though it still has some severe bounding-box problems.
