This is an uniformed opinon, I hope that I dont look
too silly for not reading all the features and source
code of dia yet. 
But here is my try to answer :
I have been looking into the XPDF source code, it is
quite interesting. C++ classes that encapsulate the
drawing operations. Each ouput is an renderer,
It would be usefull to create a DIA output object for
it, so the drawing results in the DIA drawing objects.


Then you can use the TEX to PDF and PDF to Dia.....
What do you think?

Also what about PDF output from DIA, is anyone doing
that? SVG or and metafile like postscript output?

Sorry, I have not gotten to look at the Dia source
code as closly as possible yet!
