i do not have libxml1 (binary or -devel packages) that i know of. i read
through the NEWS file but that doesn't say much about installation
problems (unless i missed something -which happens from time to time).
there were no errors from tunning ./configure

i hear ya on the warning on being logged in as root. i usually su to
root anytime i'm installing software. thanks for the warning.
