GNOME 2.17.5 Released!

GNOME 2.17.5 Development Release
================================

The first GNOME release of 2007 is available. This is our fifth
development release on our road towards GNOME 2.18.0, which will be
released in March 2007. In France, we have a wise saying: "Dans le
cochon, tout est bon." Okay, don't ask me why I'm writing this here,
since I don't know why. Or maybe it's because we could say the same
about this release. Or maybe it's because I'm hungry.

Oh, I believe it's important to mention this is also the release which
marks the start of the API/ABI freeze for the platform and the start of
the feature freeze. If you break the freezes, we'll send some crazy
people make you understand what a freeze is. Crazy people as in French
people. Or even crazier ones like persons who're going to Australia for
GNOME.conf.au (starting next Monday). I can't even imagine why people
would want to go to Australia. I mean, do you even know who live there?
No, no, I can't tell you. I don't want to frighten everybody.

Anyway, you'll love GNOME 2.17.5. You all know what you have to do now.
Go download it. Go compile it. Go test it. And go hack on it, document
it, translate it, fix it.

This is our fifth development release on our road towards GNOME
2.18.0, which will be released in March 2007. This is also the
release which marks the start of the API/ABI freeze for the platform
and the start of the feature freeze.

To compile GNOME 2.17.5, you can use GARNOME, which supports users and
has additional/different modules available), or the jhbuild
modulesets (which use the exact tarball versions from the official
release).

WARNING! WARNING! WARNING!
--------------------------

This release is a snapshot of development code. Although it is
buildable and usable, it is primarily intended for testing and hacking
purposes. GNOME uses odd minor version numbers to indicate
development status.

module lists and the proposed modules list, please see our new shiny
