There is a Screenshot method in org.freedesktop.portal.Desktop that
applications can use (it is targeting the flatpak/portal case, but
there's nothing preventing a non-flatpaked app to call the method). I
don't know the status of backends other than GNOME (for instance I
don't see it in https://github.com/KDE/xdg-desktop-portal-kde), but I
would expect that gap to close eventually.
