Hi all.
I am new to this list. Joined because I heard about the input method
integration controversy.
Given that GNOME (and IBus too) is developed by such an international
community, people need to know what the people speaking another
language may demand in their input methods. A developer may be
involved in tools for other people's languages. So if we do not
understand each other well, it may result in wrong decisions.
Example: https://mail.gnome.org/archives/desktop-devel-list/2012-May/msg00174.html
This explained the fuzzy pronunciation matching option is necessary
for some Chinese IM users just as accessibility is necessary for
disabled people. This option should not be removed even if we want the
options to be as simple as possible.
Ma Xiaojun has made a good start
(https://mail.gnome.org/archives/desktop-devel-list/2012-May/msg00232.html)
by creating a Wiki page introducing CJK languages and IMs. See
https://live.gnome.org/InputCJK
However, I would like to make one step further by not making CJK
special. I created another Wiki page https://live.gnome.org/Inputting
This page is currently quite biased since I am a Chinese. I wish
people (not limited to CJK) can introduce how their languages are (or
are supposed to be) inputted. Westerners may have insufficient
knowledge about interactive CJK IMs, but Chinese people know very
little about keyboard layouts, either.
Regards,
Kunshan Wang
