Yes, I know, but it's clear from his response that he didn't read the
original developer's comments in the original bug (now marked
duplicate). Nonetheless, I have attempted to contact said developer
along with the original patch author, who is also a developer. I
commented in the patch as well as sent an email to both of them. It's
been well over a week and neither one of them have gotten back to me.
There has been a working patch for this bug for five years. I'd really
like to see this bug closed, but to do so will require opening a
dialog with the GNOME panel maintainers to get feedback on the patch.
If something is wrong with the patch then they will need to
communicate what that is so that I, or another developer, can update
the patch to their satisfaction. People are willing to do the work to
fix this bug, but our hands are tied if we can't get maintainers to
talk to us.
My assumption is that there must be some patch review process that was
not followed. I know that some projects have specific processes in
place for requesting a patch review and I did not know if the GNOME
project is one of those. I have scoured the GNOME web site for
documentation on filing and managing bugs but I haven't not found
anything relevant. That is why I posted my original question this
list.
At this point I need a GNOME developer to step up and assist me. I
don't know what steps I need to take next to drive this bug to closure
and I need guidance and mentoring. I know that there is a GNOME
developer out there who has the knowledge and willingness to help me
if only I can find them. I need someone to point me in the right
direction and tell me what I need to do next. I am currently lost.
