Hi, since the git migration, most modules have stopped filling their changelogs and rely on commit logs instead. This is all good, but while some packages have added an automated generation of the changelog at tarball generation time, most have either kept a useless changelog that has stopped growing, or entirely removed it unilaterally. First, this makes packaging those modules downstream a bit harder, since you always have to look the git repository to see what changes the tarball includes. Second, the GPL mandates at least a basic changelog (GPL v2 §2a or GPL v3 §5a), so this is in violation of the licensing terms. It would be nice if maintainers could add changelog generation in all such modules – preferably one that doesn’t generate megabyte-large changelogs. Thanks, -- .''`.
