For whom it may concern:
I filed a bug report [1] where I discuss the storage size conventions
from a historical perspective, ultimately concluding that our current
g_format_size_for_display() convention of using base-1024 units with a
base-1000 (IEC) suffix “KB” is against all standards and conventions
ever published (IEC, SI, historical conventions).
Instead, it “just” replicates the Windows (XP) implementation. Thus, I
proposed to make the usage of units correct, and leaned towards usage of
base 1000 units where 1 KB = 1000 bytes.
Please try to fully understand all conventions and their implications
before commenting on the bug report.
best regards,
Christian Neumair
