This was discussed some months ago[1], PCRE was not a blessed external
dependency and probably nothing has changed since then as the list of
dependencies[2] does not contain it.
In the meantime glib 2.13 was released and it includes regular
expression support using PCRE. glib can be compiled to use the
system-installed PCRE library but the preferred solution is to use the
internal copy, so IMHO gnome-system-monitor should be ported to use
GRegex.
