Don't forget the some folks use network access to Gnome

Hi list,

Just a quick reminder to you all, with a couple of feature requests.

Please don't forget that some of use make heavy use of network access
techniques like Nomachine NX, XDMCP and VNC to access our desktop
applications in Gnome.

A few features that are really useful when using XDMCP or similar are
missing in Gnome.

Specifically:

1) It would be really nice if the "reduced resources" switch was
available in the normal Gnome Windows preferences UI
(Desktop->Preferences->Windows). The "reduced resources" switch I mean
is the one availabe in gconf-editor as
apps->metacity->general->reduced_resources on my Debian Sarge desktop.

2) I think this is one for the gdm developers or specifically for the
gdm theme developers. The window that shows up when you choose "Log Out
$user" or "Shut Down" always has slightly the wrong options when you are
in an XDMCP environment. For example, the "Switch User" option is often
available, which only works when you are at the real console of the
machine. A little tidying up here and testing with XDMCP would add some
nice polish to our favourite desktop environment.

In general: With all the nice new stuff you can do with the 3-D desktop,
just don't forget that for many Gnome users, non-3D desktops used in
network environments are going to be around for a long time!

very best regards,

Seb James
