What if I close the window but keep the USB drive attached in order to
access it later in the session? Do I have to open Computer then scan
for the drive? The Place shortcuts are there for a reason: to make
access of commonly used media faster.
Well, you would also be able to open the drive via the Places menu.
Don't get me wrong though. I do like Ross Burton's suggestion to add a
small eject button to disk items in the Places menu, and long term I
think it would be great to have both systems in place. Right now
though, the API doesn't seem to be there to implement Ross's
suggestion.
At this point, I'd go as far as suggesting a sub menu for each volume,
with a "View" item, an eventual "Copy" item (for CD drives) and a
"Eject/Unmount" entry.
Needing to navigate into a submenu just to open a disk in Nautilus
seems like a huge cost.
