And if anyone is serious about rewriting said amounts of code in high
level languages, I would imagine they are welcome to do so outside the
release cycle.

In fact, (in my personal opinion) any rewrite has no businnes to be in
ANY release until it

a) exists as a drop-in replacement (where possible)
b) has been moderately tested and approved by the active community
c) doesn't mean that half of the now-working stuff suddenly won't work

As always, there is little point on carrying on lengthy conversations
about fabled rewrites of this and that to the [insert favour here]
language. Just go and write it, let's see how it'll work out!
