It's not an extension to the panel menu code. It's not even a patch.
It's a completely separate applet. This is in fact, in no way different
than a theme engine in terms of integrating it upstream, into a larger
conglomerate package. Why do people keep assuming every change someone
does, is a patch? There are much better ways to do a lot of this stuff,
than patches, with the architecture we have.
And frankly, we need to show ISVs that it can be done, so they will
start doing it too. We need their support, if we're going to succeed
at actually getting Linux and GNOME to be usable and on desktops in
the Real World (TM).
