Is right the time shown on the panel

Now it was midnight. I run 'date' in terminal, and got this:
0h02m57s CST
However, the time shown on the right of the panel is :
am 12:02
Ok, at noon, the time on panel is:
pm 12:xx
Are there some mistakes? Thanks for any helps!
