May I seize the opportunity to point out a few recommendations for
improvement that I made in my GNOME Localization & Usability essay I
announced a few days back?

I'll mention here the "long term" recommendations that will probably need
some infrastructural work as well.

In short:

* Abstract program GUI from program code insofar this isn't the case yet.
  This enables the development of culture-specific user interfaces. The
  simplest case for this to be used for, is localization of icons.

* Try and work together with other projects like OpenOffice.org and distro
  vendors to standardize the way documentation is translated. There is a
  huge gap in this area, let's not have each project re-invent the wheel.
