Re: Proposal for inclusion of gmodconfig in GNOME 2.5

Hi Christian,

I think sometimes non-technical users do need to be able to change
the configuration of some modules (webcams, printers, sound cards...)
without having to learn how to edit /etc/modules.conf.

However as Sean also pointed out this tool is indeed too Linux
specific, so GNOME may not be the right place.

Thanks for the feedback,
Cyril

Hi Cyril,
I think gmodconfig seems like a great tool. But I also think it is to specialized to belong in GNOME itself.
I mean the GNOME desktop collection of software is meant
to be the 'perfect' desktop for joe average/the non-technical user. And
joe average should definetly not fiddle with his kernel modules himself.

I think the kind of people who want/need/should have gmodconfig will
find and install it themselves.

Hi,

I just released version 0.5 of gmodconfig. I would
like to propose it for inclusion in GNOME 2.5.

This tool provides a simple way for end-users to
download, install, configure and update Linux kernel
modules, in the language of their choosing, through
a GNOME interface. The static part of the GUI was
done with Glade2.

The module configuration part of the tool passed the
"mom & dad" test successfully :-)

For more details please see:

Let me know what you think.

Thanks,
Cyril
