gedit - Saves only in UTF-8

Hi:

Not sure if this is the place for it. 

Is there an option to save text files created with Gedit in plain
iso-8859-1 format (all 8 bits) instead of saving it in UTF-8. 

If there is not this option, then I think there should be when one
selects to save (or Save as) option and selects an encoding (atleast
iso-8859-1 and utf-8). Not all applications are able to comprehend with
the utf-8 output.
