Gnome window closing problem

Hej:
I have one problem that I hope that someone can help me.

I have Linux redhat 7.3 Gnome.

When I have one window open, it could be one terminal window or emacs 
window. When I click the minus icon (there are three icons, one to 
close, one to decrease size and one to increase the size of the window) 
on the right top of the window, the window is closed down instead of 
just becoming one icon in the panel in the botton on the screen.
