Replying to myself I know, but this is weird.

I noticed the errors I was getting with gconf installing schemas when
installing gnome-terminal.  I was about to delete the entire installed
tree when I noticed that gnome-(applets|media|panel) had all installed
schemas and defaults into ~/bin/gnome2/etc/gconf...

So, what program is wrong?  I get a feeling applets/media/panel are
wrong, as although I said use ~/bin/gnome2 as a prefix my gconf setup is
pointing to /etc/gconf...

Where should I file bugs?
