I cannot reproduce the locale related problem mentioned in that bug, but
I found a prob that could probably affect more people, that are
installing gnome1 and gnome2 in different prefixes.

You need to edit $gconf2prefix/etc/gconf/2/path file to include
configuration sources for gconf1.
Otherwise when running gconfd-2 it will not find the schemas installed
with gconftool-1.

For example I had to add this configuration source in
/home/mpesenti/garnome/etc/gconf/2/path :

xml:readonly:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.mandatory
xml:readonly:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults
